 USA TODAY NETWORK - Florida

Planners work with newsrooms across Florida to orchestrate which content to publish, when, and on which platforms. They use a strategic approach — and good, old-fashioned news judgment — to help newsrooms attract new audiences, deepen our connection with them, convert them into paying supporters and keep them for life.

  • Audience planners have numerous digital responsibilities, including ensuring our content gets shared and used by other sites. In addition, Florida sites work together as a statewide entity, doubling and tripling up to cover for each other during PTO.
  • Florida audience planners are the hub among the newsrooms and the design studios, wire desk, trending team and USA TODAY. They keep in constant touch with all the departments, and track and schedule content and see that everything is in the right place, in the right state, and on time.
  • Planners use their understanding of metrics to increase page views for his or her sites and the whole Florida region. They work with editors and producers to evaluate what's working and what's not and develop ongoing plans to better satisfy audience needs.
  • The position comes with strong onboarding support, training opportunities and limitless career advancement.

Knowledge and skills:

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills required.
  • Effective communicator; able to get along with diverse personalities, in both virtual and in-person settings.
  • Strong news judgment and understanding of journalism.
  • Self-motivation and self-direction. Able to work independently.
  • Able to multi-task under intense deadline pressure in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Knowledge of audience analytic tools such as Google Analytics, Parse.ly and the ability to interpret and apply such data is a strong plus.

Other requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or three to five years of news experience.
  • Experience with digital producing or planning is helpful.
  • Strong communication and collaboration experience.
  • Exposure to deadline-driven environment.
  • Employment is contingent on passing a post-offer, pre-employment background check, drug screen and motor vehicle record check.

Working conditions:

  • Working hours will generally be Monday-Friday, but some planners work weekends. Hours are subject to change as news dictates.
  • Planners will consistently work with the same newsrooms/publications but will be cross-trained on other publications and may be called on to fill in elsewhere during vacation and PTO periods.
  • This job can be all remote. Planners can often work out of local newsrooms if logistics permit.
