SPECIALIST-BIOLOGIST

 

The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (“Commission”), the nationally regarded regional planning agency for the seven county greater Milwaukee area, and the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization for the five urbanized areas within southeastern Wisconsin, is seeking applicants for a full-time Biologist. The Commission is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our diverse team of planners, engineers and specialists focused on addressing issues that transcend the political boundaries and fiscal capabilities of individual communities. The successful individual will be part of an interdisciplinary team identifying, planning, and conducting natural areas management plan implementation/resource assessment activities.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the coordination and provision of technical services for the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District’s (MMSD) Greenseams and Reforestation and Wetland Restoration Programs
  • Evaluate and Prioritize projects for various funding sources
  • Prepare site-specific forestry and wetland restoration plans
  • Assist in scope development and grant writing
  • Assist in Regional Natural Area and Critical Species Habitat Management Program
  • Conduct natural area inventories, assessments, and summary reports
  • Assist with other botanical surveys, environmental assessments, and preparation of herbarium specimens
  • Assist in wetland delineations or environmental corridor assessments as necessary

 

Core Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, botany, environmental science, or natural resources
  • Experience with written and oral communication
  • Ability to work within and contribute to a team structure with diverse groups of individuals in diverse environments
  • Proficiency with Microsoft software
  • Proficiency with statistical software and ESRI mapping and analytics (ArcGIS Pro) preferred.

 

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $65,000 depending upon education, experience, and placement with the organizational structure.
