The Department of Health Behavior and Policy in the VCU School of Medicine (SOM) invites applications for a Clinical Research Coordinator position.
Position Summary
The Clinical Research Coordinator position will support Principal Investigators (PI) in the day-to-day activities required for activation, execution, and management of clinical, patient-oriented research studies or protocols. Typical duties of a Clinical Research Coordinators include but are not limited to: assist the PI in assessing study feasibility, determining participation eligibility, and establishing guidelines for clinical data collection; serve as patient/participant recruiters; and perform a variety of complex activities involved in the collection, compilation, documentation, and analysis of clinical research data. They may work independently or as a member of a team. They work under general supervision, resolving most standard issues independently and referring complex issues to an upper-level manager or the PI, as appropriate. Clinical Research Coordinators typically report to a manager or director or may report to an administrator or PI. NOTE: Maintain established portfolio driven knowledge base of federal and state laws and regulations, sponsor guidance as well as university policies and compliance notices, with ability to consistently interpret and apply accurately.
Job Duties:
This position will be responsible for research, outreach and education-related activities to support Dr. Anika L. Hines's research program which focuses on racial disparities and achieving health equity in cardiovascular disease.
Available to work 40 hours per week, tasks include (but are not limited to):
- Overseeing regulatory aspects of research (e.g., IRB, NIH, etc.)
- Supervising and assisting with quantitative and qualitative data collection
- Managing databases
- Recruiting and consenting study participants
- Building online surveys using digital platforms (e.g. Survey Monkey, REDCap, Google Forms)
- Conducting literature reviews
- Scheduling and conducting study orientations and assessments with study participants
- Attending weekly research team meetings
- Completing CITI training and following Institutional Review Board (IRB) guidelines as required
- Bachelor's degree in health sciences, public health, psychology, research, or a related field
- Two years + experience working in research environment or health care organization or equivalent education
- Familiarity with the research process and principles of research design
- Understanding of health services research and other outcomes-oriented health research methods
- Excellent communication skills, team-based project experience, and ability to multitask in fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
- Graduate degree in health sciences, public health, psychology, research, or a related field
- Five years+ experience working in a research environment
- Supervisory/management experience
- Experience using software applications such as Redcap for participant tracking and data collection
- Experience interviewing/conducting surveys with research participants
- Experience in conducting clinical assessments (e.g., blood pressure, height/weight)
