Training and Technical Assistance Associate
Mission or Goal of Unit:
The mission of VCU Autism Center for Education (VCU-ACE) is to improve services and supports for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) by promoting the implementation of research-based practices in schools and the community through training, technical assistance, research, and collaboration.
Position Responsibilities:
The Training and Technical Assistance Associate will research, develop, and implement new online coursework for public school educators regarding knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to educate students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in Virginia Public Schools. In addition, this individual will also develop and implement embedded training and technical assistance activities in Virginia Public Schools to increase the capacity of all professional and paraprofessional educators to meet the needs of these children and youth. Finally, this individual will lead one or more of our regional Communities of Leaders in Autism initiative which involves ensuring consistent support and services to Superintendents' Regions in Virginia including the development of learning activities and professional learning groups.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in education, psychology, behavior analysis, autism, or a closely related field.
Knowledge of Virginia's special education regulations and procedures.
Extensive knowledge of evidence-based practices for students with ASD in public school settings.
At least 5 years' experience in teaching, administration, or providing therapy in public school or other public service systems.
At least 2 years' experience delivering technical assistance in public school settings.
Excellent communication skills.
Experience developing and implementing online training and education in ASD.
Experiential learning through lived experiences and/or professional service that inform worldviews and/or perspectives about minority group status, to include race, age, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, and disability.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. or post masters training.
Expertise in early childhood special education, transition to adulthood, or other relevant special education topics.
Public School Teaching Experience.
Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
